To know a what speed your memory is running at you need to download CPU-Z, go to the 'Memory tab' and look at the memory speed. THEN, you will have to multiply by 2 or 3 if your RAM is either dual or triple channel. DDR2 doesn't mean dual channel and DDR3 doesn't mean triple channel.'

I will shoot myself in tha HEAD! I done the same on my friends computer. Asus M4A785TDV EVO, i open the BIOS and what i see - memory at - 400Mhz and its Dual channel DDR3 @ 1600 mhz.but after bios update, NO one pay attention to that setting so PC was working for few years on 400, not on its regular 800 Mhz.I was thinking the BIOS will auto dermine the regular speed.: ((Someone can tell me why there is no option after 800Mhz.(memory is GAIL 1600 native speed 8-8-8-24)Ive i want to clock more!? The Bios, still shows it at 2133 mhz!Also whenever I use the XMP setting in the bios, and disable Auto which sets the memory to Profile1. It auto detects my memory perfect, but my p.c. Wont boot, just a black screen then powers off, only to return to a Bios error boot page.Sorry, Im a noob at Overclocking anything.

It runs on my gigabyte ga-z170xp-sli mobo in auto at 2133mhz.I set my memory up in the bios to run at 3000mhz via its CL settings. Going by CPU-Z SPD, in box 4 on the bottom right. It says XMP-30022 under that for Frequency I have 1501 MHz.

There was a post on the other day where someone realized that their RAM was running at the wrong speed. It was set at 800mhz in the BIOS when it should have been at 1333mhz.
I went and checked and mine was set to 666.5mhz when it should have been at 800mhz. You probably won't see a huge increase in fps but it should help a bit. If you have a laptop this probably wouldn't apply to you (although it wouldn't hurt to check.).To check what your RAM frequency currently is,.
Download, it's freeware that gathers information on some of the main devices of your system. Find the RAM you bought and note the frequency.
(1600mhz, 1866mhz, 2400mhz etc.) This is the double data rate, DDR. CPU-Z displays the DRAM frequency so doubling it gives you the double data rate. If that matches the frequency you found earlier you are fine, if it doesn't you can change it in the BIOS. Changing it in BIOS,For those of you looking to modify your current BIOS if your RAM is not running at the correct frequency. Pull up the manual from the manufacturer's website and look for X.M.P.
Profile or XMP Profile.Ideally you should be able to go into your BIOS and set XMP Profile on and it'll tune the memory to the top certified setting to get the intended performance out of your RAM. Since OP mentioned laptops (this very much applies to desktops as well), an issue that comes up most often is that people will go to the support pages for their laptop and update their drivers/bios to try and squeeze a little more power or compatibility out of their systems. Unfortunately a BIOS update may reset their RAM timings and frequency so that after a BIOS update their performance actually goes down because they didn't go check that their formatted bios defaulted to the correct settings.
Good job OP for fixing your issue! I'm a firm believer in fast RAM, currently have overclocked 2133 CL10 and love it.
Basically you are rocking two 8GB ram modules that are at 1600MHz. This is your max speed, you cant add the speeds of both your cards and get a usable number. In short: your DRAM is at 800MHz and your DDR is at 1600MHz. The first ram check you did is displaying the DDR speed of both your cards, you cant add them together to produce a higher speed.
Cpu-z is displaying your DRAM. DRAM is half of your DDR. Basically if your cpu product pages says that your card has a speed of 1600MHz then everything appears to be correctly configured.

It should be running at 1600MHz under DDR, not DRAM. Either way you should total at that too, but you are not, you need to configure your ram clock speed in your bios. CPU-Z should be telling you that your DRAM is at 800MHz, it is not. I hope you know how to enter and edit things in your bios, you are only using 66.8% of your RAM speed right now, provided that the information you have provided is correct. (Also, its very late and im dead tired, so if i have done something wrong here i will blame that). Just want to add that you should not only change the frequency. If you do other settings such as the power output will probably be incompatible afterwards.
Therefore you want to also change other setting. However i just resort to using XMP, its a settings profile that comes with some if not all RAM modules you can buy. It will basically change from the safe automatic setting dictated by your motherboard to that of the RAM manufacturer. This will make it so that it will be running at all the correct settings. You either do this or enter all values manually, i find this method is suitable for most people.
