Making the changes in the FalloutPrefs.ini file is the simplest way to make sure archive invalidation sticks (copy/paste), then make the.ini 'read-only' and save it like that, that's what I've done for over two years now, never had any real problems with it. And I use NMM myself, so it's nothing to worry about, when done properly. You'll know right away if you did it right, or, if it isn't active. Archive Invalidation Invalidated has a whole run-down on how to do it, and even has (had) the lines posted in the description (easy to copy), I seem to remember the original Archive Invalidation page did too, been a while.

The button comes in handy when a new mod you add ignores the existing.ini files, it pretty much just points NMM back to them again, if the mod tries to make.ini changes, and can't (because they are set to 'read only'), if I remember right. If all else fails, you can just delete the Falloutdefault.ini, the game creates a new, fresh one when you restart the game. Again, if I'm remembering right. I haven't added anything since then, so it hasn't been changed by any mods, good thing I looked, probably.

Reading this may have saved me from having to dig the changes back out, and putting them back again. That is, if my version of NMM didn't do it for me. Maybe it did. I'll edit this if it acts weird. Thank you Roachbait.I kind of got lost on what to do when the FO4 update came out and gave us FO4 Custom.iniI wasn't sure if I was suppost to change everything back and just work with the custom file or just start using the custom.ini.I had made all the original changes Gopher instructed us to do to the FO4.ini and FO4pref.ini to get mods to work.When the update came out several of my mods broke and the FO4 Launcher had now taken control of my game files. Turning off.esp's and ignoring read only pref.iniBasicly making changes without my permission. In troubleshooting that issue I was introduced to this new FO4 Launcher / Game control interface.When I first launched it I got a warning screen that the app had scanned my ini files and found something wrong and ask it it could fix the issue.

I said yes.I have had zero issues with the updated game, all my mods are working, even got my frame rate back up, since I started using this app.So for now I don't plan to do anyone manual inputs to my files unless it becomes nessary to keep the game working properly.Edited December 14, 2015 by OutandBack.
