MBR is the master boot record of a hard disk. It is created on the first partition when you first install Windows. MBR consists of three parts, i.e. Boot Loader, Partition Table and Magic Number. Boot loader is a program that loads an operating system when a computer is turned on. Partition table records partition information on local disks. Windows 10 installation convert from MBR to GPT without data loss (Recover data in no boot situation).Modify title from: Windows 10 partitions - instalator. Hello. Is it like the NTLDR problem with Windows 2003 where I can just drop a file in there and it will be hunky dory again? I have had an immense amount of trouble getting windows to boot on a new 1TB disk. It booted off the new drive so long as the old drive was plugged in to the first SATA port, but after a year of running like that the old drive finally died.I followed the advice of @SLY and @JFB and also on how to access the Startup Repair function under Windows 2008 R2 Server from the command line.

(x:sourcesrecoveryStartRep.exe)After much trial and error I did get this machine to boot with only the new drive connected, so I can finally pull the aging OEM drive. As I don't really know exactly which step fixed it, I am just listing what I did below.; Initial condition: will not boot, says 'NTLDR IS MISSING'.; Booting off Win2k8r2 install CD. In recovery window, no windows installations appear.; From command line, partition is present and seems ok.BCDBoot C:Windows; after this step the windows 2k8r2 installation appears. Still fails on reboot.Bootrec /rebuildbcd; after this step it found an installation and allowed me to select it.

Fails on reboot.x:sourcesrecoveryStartRep.exe; startup recovery runs, claims to fix some stuff. Fails on reboot.bootrec /fixmbrbootrec /fixbootbootrec /rebuildbcdx:sourcesrecoveryStartRep.exe; One of these four commands fixed it. This time bootrec /rebuildbcd; did not find any orphaned installations, and StartRep.exe said that; everything was fine.; Rebooted one more time and it worked.

Hi Guys,I inherited a HP ProLiant DL385 G7  server running OS: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition, 64-bit. It's main purpose is for running and storing an in car video system.I am looking to add storage to it.

It currently has 5 1 TB drives used with 3 bays free. Looking around the server i have realized that whoever setup the server initially must have used MBR over GPT as in computer management i'm seeing 1677.93 GB's of unallocated disk space.!!

(See attached screenshot)Like i said during my research i discovered the MBR over GPT issue and suspect that is why i am unable to use the unallocated space.am i correct??If that is indeed the case, am i able to purchase 3 drives for the empty bays and use those? Will the OS see the added xtra storage. Hi Guys, Rather than create a new support request i decided to continue using this one as its part of teh same issue.so i'm finally getting around to get this server setup and have ran into a problem (again)Tried to reformat / reinstall the OS using GPT this time.At the 'where to install' screen this is what i get.I am unable to extend partition 2 to use the unallocated space.clicking the unallocated space i'm unable to create new volume.the error i get is 0x80042468Using the suggested solution i found online using DISKPART to convert to GPT does not work either.this is the error i get.
